In early 2019, Fossum Materials was added to the Century Companies, Inc. organization. Based in Glasgow, MT, Fossum Materials formerly served the market as Fossum Ready Mix, a regional supplier of gravel and ready-mix concrete serving north central Montana.
Founded in 1953 as Fossum & Son, by Orville Fossum and his father Ole, the organization grew and changed a bit until it became Fossum Ready Mix in 1976. The business is well known for its vast resources and market leadership as it supplies customers and projects from Fort Peck to the Canadian border.
Orville passed away in March of 2014 and the business continued under the ownership and direction of his son, Steve, until Century acquired the operation along with many of its assets. “I remember distinctly being told by Jack Morgenstern, Century’s founder, that Fossum and Century had a special relationship that would hopefully last forever,” explained Century CEO Tim Robertson. “With this merger of Fossum’s operations into the Century family, we truly can operate as a single service organization for all of Fossum’s and Century’s customers. It’s a fantastic marriage for our customers and the employees of both companies.”
Steve Fossum stayed on to assist Andrew Malmend, Fossum Materials’ new General Manager, through the transition. “We are very fortunate that nearly all of the Fossum employees have elected to continue here at the new organization,” said Malmend. “This is a great group of people who have been dedicated to the Fossum operation and family for many years. We’re privileged to follow in Orville’s and Steve’s footsteps with a great team that has many years of experience.”
